SECTION 7. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

1 Engine Failure

1.1 Engine Failure On Takeoff

  1. Simultaneously reduce collective pitch and apply aft cyclic.
  2. Maintain directional control with pedals
  3. Increase collective pitch to cushion landing
  4. Apply wheel brakes

1.2 Engine Failure During Climb/Cruise

  1. Collective - FULL DOWN
  2. Airspeed - 60 knots
  3. Cabin Occupants - ALERTED
  4. Tailwheel Lock - LOCKED
  5. Wheel brakes - OFF
  6. Shoulder harnesses - OFF
  7. At 75 feet - Aft cyclic to initiate flare
  8. At 15-20 knots - Forward cyclic to level aircraft
  9. Collective - Gradually increase to soften landing
  10. On ground contact - Collective full down
  11. Wheel brakes - APPLY

1.3 In-Flight Restart

Note: It is the pilot's judgement on whether to attempt an in-flight restart or to make a power-off landing.

  1. Collective - FULL DOWN
  2. Throttle - CLOSED
  3. Mixture - IDLE CUT-OFF
  4. Fuel Boost - ON
  5. Fuel Selector - OPEN
  6. Ignition - BOTH
  7. Starter - DEPRESS
  8. Primer Switch - DEPRESS
  9. Mixture - RICH (after engine starts)
  10. Throttle - Increase to normal RPM

1.4 Securing Engine In Flight

  1. Throttle - CLOSED
  2. Mixture - IDLE CUT-OFF
  3. Fuel Boost - OFF
  4. Ignition - OFF
  5. Fuel Selector - CLOSE

2 Tail Rotor Failure

2.1 Tail Rotor Failure on Takeoff or Below 10 Feet

  1. Throttle - CLOSE
  2. Cyclic - Maintain Level Attitude
  3. Collective - Raise to soften landing
  4. Wheel Brakes - APPLY

2.2 Tail Rotor Failure Above 10 Feet

  1. Throttle - CLOSE
  2. Collective - FULL DOWN
  3. Airspeed - 60 knots
  4. Cabin Occupants - ALERTED
  5. Tailwheel Lock - LOCKED
  6. Wheel brakes - OFF
  7. Shoulder harnesses - OFF
  8. At 75 feet - Aft cyclic to initiate flare
  9. At 15-20 knots - Forward cyclic to level aircraft
  10. Collective - Gradually increase to soften landing
  11. On ground contact - Collective full down
  12. Wheel brakes - APPLY

3 Fire

3.1 Fire On The Ground

  1. Mixture - IDLE CUT-OFF
  2. Fuel Boost - OFF
  3. Fuel Selector - CLOSE
  4. Ignition - OFF
  5. External Power - Disconnect
  6. Battery-Generator - OFF
  7. Fire - Extinguish

3.2 In-Flight Engine Fire

  1. Collective - FULL DOWN
  2. Airspeed - 60 knots
  3. Cabin Occupants - ALERTED
  4. Tailwheel Lock - LOCKED
  5. Wheel brakes - OFF
  6. Shoulder harnesses - OFF
  7. At 75 feet - Aft cyclic to initiate flare
  8. At 15-20 knots - Forward cyclic to level aircraft
