SECTION 3. NORMAL PROCEDURES

1 General

This section describes the procedures necessary to safely and efficiently operate your aircraft. A basic understanding of helicopter flight techniques is assumed.

2 Preflight Procedures

2.1 Exterior Checks (Left Side)

  1. Remove covers and chocks
  2. Main Rotors – check condition
  3. Left Transmission Compartment
    1. Generator #1 – check condition
    2. Hydraulic Pump #1 – check condition
    3. Hydraulic #1 Fluid Level – check level
  4. Left Engine Compartment
    1. Engine #1 – check condition
    2. Engine #1 oil level – check level
    3. Landing Gear - check
  5. Tail
    1. Tail Rotor – check condition
    2. T/R Transmission– check condition
    3. T/R Transmission Fluid – check level

2.2 Exterior Checks (Right Side)

  1. Right Engine Compartment
    1. Engine #2 – check condition
    2. Engine #2 oil level – check level
  2. Left Transmission Compartment
    1. Generator #2 – check condition
    2. Hydraulic Pump #2 – check condition
    3. Hydraulic #2 Fluid Level – check level
    4. Main Transmission – check condition
    5. Main Transmission Fluid – check level

2.3 Interior Checks

  1. Circuit Breaker Panel – check
  2. Rotor Brake – check disengaged
  3. Gear Lever – check down
  4. BATT 1 – ON
  5. Aircraft Event Log Check
    1. MFD3 – FMD
    2. Check log for unresolved faults
    3. MFD3 - NORM
  6. Exterior light check
    1. NAV, Beacon and Ldg Lights – ON
    2. Check correct operation of each light
    3. NAV, Beacon and Ldg Lights – OFF

2.4 Periodic Checks (Perform every 5 hours)

  1. Avionics Analyzer – place near Aircraft
  2. WiFi Connection – verify established
  3. Each Avionics System – verify functional
  4. Avionics Analyzer – stow

3 Flight Procedures

3.1 Start Procedures

  1. Cyclic & Pedals - CENTERED
  2. Collective - FULL DOWN
  3. Rotor Brake - OFF
  4. Park Brake - PARK
  5. Electrical Cutoff Bar - CLOSED
  6. BATT1 & BATT2 - ON
    1. Verify DC warning lights OFF
    2. Verify ≥ 23V each bus
    3. Use external power if < 23V
  7. GEN1 & GEN2 - ON
  8. ELT - CHECK ARMED
  9. Anti-Collision - BOTH
  10. Fuel Quantity - CHECK
  11. Collective - LIFT SLIGHTLY
    1. Verify low RPM warn sound
  12. Collective - FULL DOWN
  13. Test - ON
    1. Verify overhead warning lights illuminated and fire warning alarm active.
  14. Test - OFF
  15. Verify warning lights out except FCR
  16. FADEC 1 & 2 - ON & GUARDED
  17. Engine #1 Control - IDLE
    1. Wait for #1 N1 to reach 75%
  18. Engine #2 Control - IDLE
    1. Wait for #2 N2 to reach 75%
  19. RA1 & RA2 - ON
  20. FMS1 & FMS2 - ON
  21. AHRS Select - AHRS1
  22. DG CORR - DEPRESS
    1. Verify DG and compass deviate & ALIGN warning lit
  23. DG/MG - DEPRESS
    1. Verify DG aligned, ALIGN out
  24. AHRS Select - AHRS2
  25. DG CORR - DEPRESS
    1. Verify DG and compass deviate & ALIGN warning lit
  26. DG/MG - DEPRESS
    1. Verify DG aligned, ALIGN out
  27. EMERG GEN - ON
    1. Verify indicator on MFD
  28. EMERG GEN - OFF
  29. FMS/GPS Course - AS REQUIRED
  30. Engine Control Guards - CLOSE
  31. Engine #1 & #2 - FLY
    1. Wait Eng 1&2 @ 100% N2
  32. AFCS #1 & #2 - ON
  33. All CAD Warnings - VERIFY OUT

3.2 Take-Off

  1. N2 & NR - VERIFY 100%
  2. NAV - AS REQUIRED
  3. Transponder - AS REQUIRED
  4. Fuel Quantity - CHECK
  5. Doors - CHECK
  6. CAD - VERIFY NO MSGS
  7. Floats - AS REQUIRED
    1. ARM for overwater flights
  8. Crew & Passengers - BRIEF
  9. Nose Wheel - FREE
  10. Park Brake - FREE

After takeoff:

  1. Climb - ESTABLISH
  2. Landing Gear - UP
    1. Verify three amber lights

3.3 Pre-Landing

    1. Landing Gear - DOWN
    2. Verify three green lights
  1. Nose Wheel - FREE
  2. Park Brake - FREE
  3. Landing Lights - AS REQUIRED
  4. Crew & Passengers - BRIEF

After Touchdown:

  1. Floats - OFF
  2. Cyclic - CENTER
  3. Collective - FULL DOWN

3.4 Shutdown

  1. Park Brake - PARK
  2. Nose Wheel - LOCK
  3. AFCS #1 & #2 - OFF
  4. Engine Control #1 & #2 - IDLE
  5. RA1 & RA2 - OFF
  6. FMS1 & FMS2 - OFF
  7. MFD3 - FMD
    1. Check log for abnormal indications
  8. MFD3 - NORM
  9. Engine Guards #1 & #2 - OPEN
  10. Engine Control #1 & #2 - OFF
  11. Engine Instruments - MONITOR
  12. GEN1 & GEN2 - OFF

When rotor RPM < 50%

  1. Rotor Brake - ON

When rotor has stopped:

  1. All Lights - OFF
  2. BATT1 & BATT2 - OFF
  3. Verify ELT - NO LIGHT
