SECTION 7. NORMAL PROCEDURES

1 General

This section describes the procedures necessary to safely and efficiently operate your aircraft. A basic understanding of helicopter flight techniques is assumed. Some of the items on the checklist are intended to be performed by the flight engineer. These items are marked with an (F).

2 Preflight Procedures

2.1 Exterior Checks

  1. Main Rotors - check condition
  2. Forward Pylon - check as follows (open access panel)
    1. Forward transmission - check condition
    2. Forward transmission oil level - check sight gauge
    3. #1 Flight Control Hydraulics - check condition
  3. Aft Pylon - check as follows (access on front of plyon)
    1. Combining transmission - check condition
    2. Engine #1 transmission - check condition
    3. Engine #2 transmission - check condition
    4. Combining transmission oil level - check sight gauge
    5. Engine #1 transmission oil level - check sight gauge
    6. Engine #2 transmission oil level - check sight gauge
  4. Engine #1 - check as follows (open access panel)
    1. Engine - check condition
    2. Engine Oil Level - check indicating bar near top
  5. Engine #2 - check as follows (open access panel)
    1. Engine - check condition
    2. Engine Oil Level - check indicating bar near top

2.2 Interior Checks

  1. Ramp Overhead Area Checks
    1. APU - check condition
    2. APU Generator - check condition
    3. Aft transmission - check condition
    4. #1 Generator - check condition
    5. #2 Generator - check condition
    6. #1 Flight Control Hydraulic Pump - check condition
    7. Utility Hydraulic Pump - check condition
    8. Aft transmission oil level - check sight gauge
    9. Engine Fire Agent Bottles - check condition and pressure. 500 psi minimum.
  2. BATT switch - ON
  3. Check fuel levels
  4. Check aft maintenance panel as follows
    1. Hydrualic fluid levels - check Utility, FC #1 and FC #2
    2. Ground contact lights - check L & R ON
    3. Oil pressure warning lights - check ON
    4. Ground Test Switch - ON
    5. All maintenace panel lights - check ON
    6. Ground Test Switch - OFF
  5. BATT switch - OFF

3 Start Procedures

3.1 Before Starting Engines

  1. No 1 and No 2 PDPs. – Check all circuit breakers in and gang bars up.
  2. Overhead switches set as follows
    1. EXT LTG switches – as required
    2. CPL LTG switches – as required
    3. COMPASS switch – as required
    4. TROOP WARN switches – OFF
    5. HTG switches – as required
    6. W/S WIPER switch - OFF
    7. ELEC switches – OFF
    8. LTG switches – as required
    9. FUEL CONT switches – as follows
      1. XFEED switch - OPEN
      2. REFUEL STA switch – OFF
      3. L MAIN FUEL PUMP switches – ON
      4. All remaining FUEL PUMP switches - OFF
    10. ENG COND levers – STOP
    11. FADEC switches – as follows
      1. B/U PWR switch - OFF
      2. LOAD SHARE switch – TRQ
      3. 1 and 2 PRI/REV switches – PRI
      4. NR% switch - 100
    12. INTR LTG switches – as required
    13. PLT LTG – as required
    14. ANTI-ICE switches – OFF
    15. HOIST switches – OFF
    16. CARGO HOOK switches – as follows
      1. MSTR switch - OFF
      2. HOOK SEL switch – as required
      3. EMER REL switch - OFF
    17. HYD switches –as follows
      1. PWR XFER switches - OFF
      2. FLT CONTR switch – BOTH
      3. PWR STEER switch – ON
      4. RAMP switch - ON
  3. FIRE PULL handles – IN
  4. AGENT DISCH switch – Check
  5. XMSN OIL PRESS switch – SCAN
  6. XMSN OIL TEMP switch – SCAN
  7. VGI switches – NORM
  8. CYCLIC TRIM switch – AUTO
  9. AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch – OFF
  10. Avionics equipment – OFF
  11. SWIVEL switch - LOCK

3.2 Starting Engines

  1. BATT switch – ON
  2. CAUTION LT TEST switch – TEST. Check that all lights and the two MASTER caution lights come on. Some lights will be on before test.
  3. TROOP WARN ALARM and JUMP LT – Two bells, two red and two green
  4. (F) Fire guard posted – APU clear to start
  5. APU – Start as follows
    1. APU switch – RUN for 3 to 5 sec.
    2. APU switch – START for 2 sec., then RUN
    3. APU ON caution light– check ON
    4. UTIL HYD SYS caution light – check OUT
  6. APU GEN switch – ON. NO 1 & 2 RECT lights – OUT. L & R FUEL PRESS caution lights OUT
  7. PWR XFER check
    1. PWR XFER switches - ON
    2. HYD FLIGHT CONTR caution light – OUT
    3. Pressures normal
  8. (F) MAINTENANCE PANEL – check
    1. GND switch – TEST, then RESET
    2. GROUND CONTACT lights – check ON
    3. Systems - Normal
  9. Avionics – On as desired
  10. CARGO HOOKS HOIST/WINCH – Check operation as required
  11. PARKING BRAKE – Set
  12. CRUISE GUIDE indicator– Check for pointer in white band when CGI TEST switch is at FWD and AFT TEST.
  13. FIRE DETR switches – TEST. Check fire warning lights on. FIRE DETR switch back to OFF.
  14. Fuel Quantity – Check
  15. Cyclic trim indicators – Check GND position
  16. AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch – Check as follows
    1. Select individual systems and check opposite AFCS caution light OUT
    2. Select BOTH and check both AFCS caution lights OUT
    3. AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch - OFF
  17. Flight Control Check
    1. Check free movement of all controls with FLT CONTR switch in both 1 & 2 position.
    2. FLT CONTR switch – BOTH
    3. Pedal & cyclic neutral. Collective full down.
  18. DECU PRESTART BIT – Perform as follows
    1. B/U PWR switch – ON
    2. Wait until ENG FAIL caution lights go out
    3. ENG COND levers – GND
    4. (F) DECUs – Check displays read 88.
  19. GPS – Start up and configure as required
  20. (F) Area – Clear for start
  21. First Engine – Start as follows
    1. ENG START switch – Select engine to be started and hold until N1 reaches 10%, then release switch.
    2. Engine should accelerate to ground idle (50 to 59%) within 45 seconds.
    3. Engine oil pressure
    4. Engine oil pressure – check 5 psi min.
  22. Second Engine – Start using same method as first engine.
  23. P3 bellow – check as follows
    1. ENG 1 FADEC PRI-REV switch – REV
    2. FADEC FAIL Caution – ON
    3. N1 – Maximum change ± 3%.
    4. ENG 1 FADEC PRI-REV switch – PRI
    5. FADEC FAIL Caution – OFF
    6. Repeat for ENG 2
  24. Transmission oil pressures – Check minimum of 7 psi.
  25. ENG COND levers – FLT Engine acceleration should be smooth.
  26. GEN 1 & 2 switches – ON
  27. APU GEN switch – OFF
  28. PWR XFER 1 & 2 switches – OFF
  29. APU switch OFF. Check APU ON caution light OUT
  30. Systems – check
  31. Transponder – STBY

3.3 Engine Ground Operation

  1. FUEL PUMP and XFEED – Check operation as follows
    1. All FUEL PUMP switches – OFF Check L and R FUEL PRESS caution lights ON
    2. L AFT MAIN FUEL PUMP switch ON. Check L and R FUEL PRESS caution lights OUT. Then switch OFF.
    3. Remaining MAIN FUEL PUMP switches – Check as is Step b above.
    4. L AFT AUX FUEL PUMP switch – ON. Check L AUX PRESS light on overhead panel comes on, then goes out. Set pump switch to OFF.
    5. Remaining three AUX FUEL PUMPs – Check as in Step d.
  2. FUEL CONT switches – Set as follows
    1. All FUEL PUMP switches – ON
    2. XFEED switch - CLOSE
  3. ANTI-ICE systems – Check as required
    1. PITOT switch ON – (F) Physically check for pitot tube port heat. Then OFF
    2. W/S switches ON – (F) Physically check for windshield heat Then OFF
  4. Flight instruments – Check as follows
    1. HSI compass card – Check aligned with proper compass heading.
    2. VGI - Check

4 Before Takeoff

  1. Systems – check indications
    1. Rotor – check as required
    2. Torque
    3. Engine
    4. Transmission
    5. Fuel
    6. Caution/Advisory panel
  2. PARKING BRAKE – as required
  3. AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch – as required
  4. CYCLIC TRIM switch – check
  5. SWIVEL switch – LOCK
  6. Transponder – As required
  7. (F) Crew, passenger and mission equipment - Check

5 Cruise Checks

  1. Fuel Consumption – Check
  2. MAINTANCE PANEL – Check every 30 min. of flight

6 Pre-Landing

  1. Systems
    1. Rotor
    2. Torque
    3. Transmission
    4. Fuel
    5. Caution Panel
  2. PARKING BRAKE – As Required
  3. AFCS control panel – Check as follows
    1. AFCS HDG and ALT switches – As required
    2. CYCLIC TRIM switch – as required
    3. AFCS selector switch – as required
  4. (F) Crew, passengers and mission equipment – Check

7 After Landing

  1. AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch – As required
  2. SWIVEL switch – As required
  3. Transponder – As required
  4. ANTI-ICE switches – OFF
  5. (F) GROUND CONTACT lights – check ON
  6. Cyclic trim indicators – Check GND indication

8 Shutdown Procedures

  1. Flight Controls – Neutral position
  2. PARKING BRAKE – Set
  3. HTG switches – OFF
  4. AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch – OFF
  5. (F) Ramp area – As required
  6. (F) Wheels – Chocked
  7. (F) Mission equipment – Safe as required
  8. (F) Fire guard – Posted
  9. APU – Start
    1. APU switch – RUN for 3 to 5 sec.
    2. APU switch – START for 2 sec., then RUN
    3. APU ON caution light– check ON
    4. UTIL HYD SYS caution light – check OUT
  10. APU GEN switch – ON
  11. PWR XFER 1 & 2 switches – ON
  12. Cyclic trim indicators – Check GND position, manually adjust if necessary
  13. ENG COND levers – GND, allow 2 min. cool-down
  14. FUEL CONTR switches – Set as follows
    1. XFEED switch - CLOSE
    2. FUEL PUMP switches – OFF
    3. REFUEL STA switch – As required
  15. ENG COND levers – STOP
  16. (F) DECU SHUTDOWN BIT – Check display reads 88. If display reads other than 88, advance respective ENG COND lever to GND without starting engine. If 88 is displayed, then a nuisance fault has been verified. If other than 88 is displayed, refer aircraft to maintenance.
  17. Avionics - OFF
  18. (F)MAINTEANCE PANEL – Check
  19. PWR XFER 1 & 2 switches – OFF after rotors have stopped spinning
  20. FADEC B/U PWR switch – OFF
  21. APU GEN switch – OFF
  22. APU switch - OFF
  23. Light switches – OFF
  24. BATT switch - OFF
