SECTION 7. NORMAL PROCEDURES
Contents
1 General
This section describes the procedures necessary to safely and efficiently operate your aircraft. A basic understanding of helicopter flight techniques is assumed. Some of the items on the checklist are intended to be performed by the flight engineer. These items are marked with an (F).
2 Preflight Procedures
2.1 Exterior Checks
- Main Rotors - check condition
- Forward Pylon - check as follows (open access panel)
- Forward transmission - check condition
- Forward transmission oil level - check sight gauge
- #1 Flight Control Hydraulics - check condition
- Aft Pylon - check as follows (access on front of plyon)
- Combining transmission - check condition
- Engine #1 transmission - check condition
- Engine #2 transmission - check condition
- Combining transmission oil level - check sight gauge
- Engine #1 transmission oil level - check sight gauge
- Engine #2 transmission oil level - check sight gauge

- Ground contact lights - check L & R ON
- Oil pressure warning lights - check ON
- Ground Test Switch - ON

- BATT switch - OFF
3 Start Procedures
3.1 Before Starting Engines
- No 1 and No 2 PDPs. – Check all circuit breakers in and gang bars up.
- Overhead switches set as follows
- EXT LTG switches – as required
- CPL LTG switches – as required
- COMPASS switch – as required
- TROOP WARN switches – OFF
- HTG switches – as required
- W/S WIPER switch - OFF
- ELEC switches – OFF
- LTG switches – as required
- FUEL CONT switches – as follows
- XFEED switch - OPEN
- REFUEL STA switch – OFF
- L MAIN FUEL PUMP switches – ON
- All remaining FUEL PUMP switches - OFF
- ENG COND levers – STOP
- FADEC switches – as follows
- B/U PWR switch - OFF
- LOAD SHARE switch – TRQ
- 1 and 2 PRI/REV switches – PRI
- NR% switch - 100
- INTR LTG switches – as required
- PLT LTG – as required
- ANTI-ICE switches – OFF
- HOIST switches – OFF
- CARGO HOOK switches – as follows
- MSTR switch - OFF
- HOOK SEL switch – as required
- EMER REL switch - OFF
- HYD switches –as follows
- PWR XFER switches - OFF
- FLT CONTR switch – BOTH
- PWR STEER switch – ON
- RAMP switch - ON
- FIRE PULL handles – IN
- AGENT DISCH switch – Check
- XMSN OIL PRESS switch – SCAN
- XMSN OIL TEMP switch – SCAN
- VGI switches – NORM
- CYCLIC TRIM switch – AUTO
- AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch – OFF
- Avionics equipment – OFF
- SWIVEL switch - LOCK
3.2 Starting Engines
- BATT switch – ON
- CAUTION LT TEST switch – TEST. Check that all lights and the two MASTER caution lights come on. Some lights will be on before test.
- TROOP WARN ALARM and JUMP LT – Two bells, two red and two green
- (F) Fire guard posted – APU clear to start
- APU – Start as follows
- APU switch – RUN for 3 to 5 sec.
- APU switch – START for 2 sec., then RUN
- APU ON caution light– check ON
- UTIL HYD SYS caution light – check OUT
- APU GEN switch – ON. NO 1 & 2 RECT lights – OUT. L & R FUEL PRESS caution lights OUT
- PWR XFER check
- PWR XFER switches - ON
- HYD FLIGHT CONTR caution light – OUT
- Pressures normal
- (F) MAINTENANCE PANEL – check
- GND switch – TEST, then RESET
- GROUND CONTACT lights – check ON
- Systems - Normal
- Avionics – On as desired
- CARGO HOOKS HOIST/WINCH – Check operation as required
- PARKING BRAKE – Set
- CRUISE GUIDE indicator– Check for pointer in white band when CGI TEST switch is at FWD and AFT TEST.
- FIRE DETR switches – TEST. Check fire warning lights on. FIRE DETR switch back to OFF.
- Fuel Quantity – Check
- Cyclic trim indicators – Check GND position
- AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch – Check as follows
- Select individual systems and check opposite AFCS caution light OUT
- Select BOTH and check both AFCS caution lights OUT
- AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch - OFF
- Flight Control Check
- Check free movement of all controls with FLT CONTR switch in both 1 & 2 position.
- FLT CONTR switch – BOTH
- Pedal & cyclic neutral. Collective full down.
- DECU PRESTART BIT – Perform as follows
- B/U PWR switch – ON
- Wait until ENG FAIL caution lights go out
- ENG COND levers – GND
- (F) DECUs – Check displays read 88.
- GPS – Start up and configure as required
- (F) Area – Clear for start
- First Engine – Start as follows
- ENG START switch – Select engine to be started and hold until N1 reaches 10%, then release switch.
- Engine should accelerate to ground idle (50 to 59%) within 45 seconds.
- Engine oil pressure
- Engine oil pressure – check 5 psi min.
- Second Engine – Start using same method as first engine.
- P3 bellow – check as follows
- ENG 1 FADEC PRI-REV switch – REV
- FADEC FAIL Caution – ON
- N1 – Maximum change ± 3%.
- ENG 1 FADEC PRI-REV switch – PRI
- FADEC FAIL Caution – OFF
- Repeat for ENG 2
- Transmission oil pressures – Check minimum of 7 psi.
- ENG COND levers – FLT Engine acceleration should be smooth.
- GEN 1 & 2 switches – ON
- APU GEN switch – OFF
- PWR XFER 1 & 2 switches – OFF
- APU switch OFF. Check APU ON caution light OUT
- Systems – check
- Transponder – STBY
3.3 Engine Ground Operation
- FUEL PUMP and XFEED – Check operation as follows
- All FUEL PUMP switches – OFF Check L and R FUEL PRESS caution lights ON
- L AFT MAIN FUEL PUMP switch ON. Check L and R FUEL PRESS caution lights OUT. Then switch OFF.
- Remaining MAIN FUEL PUMP switches – Check as is Step b above.
- L AFT AUX FUEL PUMP switch – ON. Check L AUX PRESS light on overhead panel comes on, then goes out. Set pump switch to OFF.
- Remaining three AUX FUEL PUMPs – Check as in Step d.
- FUEL CONT switches – Set as follows
- All FUEL PUMP switches – ON
- XFEED switch - CLOSE
- ANTI-ICE systems – Check as required
- PITOT switch ON – (F) Physically check for pitot tube port heat. Then OFF
- W/S switches ON – (F) Physically check for windshield heat Then OFF
- Flight instruments – Check as follows
- HSI compass card – Check aligned with proper compass heading.
- VGI - Check
4 Before Takeoff
- Systems – check indications
- Rotor – check as required
- Torque
- Engine
- Transmission
- Fuel
- Caution/Advisory panel
- PARKING BRAKE – as required
- AFCS SYSTEM SEL switch – as required
- CYCLIC TRIM switch – check
- SWIVEL switch – LOCK
- Transponder – As required
- (F) Crew, passenger and mission equipment - Check
5 Cruise Checks
- Fuel Consumption – Check
- MAINTANCE PANEL – Check every 30 min. of flight
6 Pre-Landing
